I work with neurodivergent young people from toddlerhood through to young adulthood, including support with the transition out of school.
I work with neurodivergent children and young people. Neurodivergent is a broad umbrella term. It can include neurodevelopmental differences (such as autism, ADHD, dyslexia, dyspraxia, global developmental delay and intellectual disability), neurological conditions (such as epilepsy or Tourette's), mental health conditions, and acquired neurodivergence (for example, after a brain injury). You don't need a diagnosis or label to get in touch. If you're not sure whether I'm a good fit for your young person, we can have a chat.
It means I see neurodivergence as a natural part of who a young person is, not something to fix or remediate. If I'm your child's occupational therapist, I won't encourage them to act like a neurotypical young person. Instead, I focus on what's making everyday life harder, build on their strengths, interests and what's already working, and support them to take part in the moments that matter to them.
Occupational therapy supports young people to take part in the everyday moments that matter to them. Depending on your child, this might include:understanding and supporting sensory needsemotional regulation, and noticing when things are becoming too muchexecutive functioning and getting through everyday tasksself-care and daily living skillsplay, school, kindy and community participationtransitions, changes in routine and moving on from schoolnavigating overwhelm or burnoutbuilding confidence and autonomyfinding practical and environmental supports that make everyday life easierWhat I focus on always depends on your child, their priorities and what's happening in their life right now.
